Active speakers have an amplifier built in. This avoids the need for a separate amplifier to power your speakers. So no Speaker Cable, but you do have to run a signal cable from your mixer and mains power to your Active Speaker. Most come with basic controls and a mic and line input - this means for small applications a mixer is not required - eg. Solo vocalist to CD backing. The higher specified units have separate amplifiers for bass driver and high frequency driver meaning a cleaner sharper more detailed sound.

Speaker cabinets with just the speakers – and NO amplifier. These all have Speaker Cable connections on the back and need an amplifier to drive them. You should have an amplifier that is more powerful than the speaker you are driving with it - as a general rule the power of the Amplifier should be up to 1 ½ times he power of the speaker. However, make sure you are comparing power levels in Watts RMS and at the same impedance.

Plastic speakers offer good value for money and are lightweight and easy to transport, their rigid plastic bodies also make them hard wearing on the road.

Traditional Wooden cabinets offer a warmer sound reproduction than there plastic counterparts. We have a selection of sizes available to suit various scenarios.

Full range speakers deliver a full sound. They can be enhanced with the addition of bass cabinets or used on there own in applications where it isn’t practical to transport or install bass cabinets.

Bass speakers - often referred to as subwoofers or bass bins. These speakers produce low frequencies from high sound pressure enclosures. They should be coupled with either full range cabinets and a crossover/ loudspeaker management unit or dedicated mid-high cabinets. Some of our bass cabinets do however have on board crossovers, please see individual information on each unit or give us a call and we will be happy to give you info on what would best suit your needs.

Monitor speakers are designed for performers too hear everything required on stage. They are often referred to as wedges or foldbacks. We stock a selection of passive and active (powered) monitors.

These speakers work particularly well in venues where the music is more at background levels.

We have found a number of different types of speaker that work well in cafes, hairdressers, shops, pubs, restaurants, wine bars and the like. Typically it is best to use a lot of small speakers in these venues to get a good 'spread'of good quality sound.

Speakers designed to cover Mid and High sound frequencies but NOT the bass. Usually used with separate bass Bins.
